Turtle Bay by Tiffany King {Release Day Launch}

Today is the day! The day you all can get your little paws on the newest from Tiffany King! And can I just say that it is a fun read. Congratulations on the release!

Blurb~
If you're a teenager in a small, rural area, how do you exist when your eccentric, free-spirited parents are the town freaks everyone laughs at?

For sixteen-year-old Rainbow Honeywell—or Rain, as she insists on being called—the answer was to become the queen of all pranks. She never wanted to be a troublemaker, but the label quickly stuck when everyone in Huntsville, Kansas, became a target. All she wanted was to deflect the negative attention off her parents, but Rain's plan backfired to the max, landing her in a heap of trouble with the local authorities and expelled from high school.

An unexpected inheritance offers Rain an opportunity for a new beginning when she and her family move across the country to the quaint beach community of Turtle Bay, Florida.

Determined to make the best of her second chance, Rain vows to walk the straight and narrow, hoping her parents will fly under the radar while she soaks up some fun in the sun, sandy beaches, and hot, tanned guys. Unfortunately, she picks the wrong new friends, and a late night party lands her back in the kind of trouble she had been hoping to avoid. As the newbie in town with a record, Rain takes the brunt of the punishment when an unforgiving judge chooses to make an example out of her and slaps her with enough community service hours to keep her busy until she is old and gray.

Facing the harsh reality of paying for the actions of others while atoning for her own past sins, Rain is paired up with Josh Shaw, a judgmental local lifeguard whose love for the beach and the environment is eclipsed only by his distaste for those who trash it. As far as Josh is concerned, Rain is guilty and got what she deserved, regardless of her side of the story. To make matters worse, a tropical storm sits in the Atlantic, threatening to wreak havoc on the small beach community.

Things slowly change as Rain begins to appreciate her surroundings through Josh's eyes, proving she is not the person he thinks she is. Their feelings for one another blossom as the tropical storm grows into a hurricane and bears down on Turtle Bay. With impending danger looming, the small beach community must come together in order to ride out the storm.

Picture 015 (600x800)Ever since I was small girl, I loved to read. Being sent to my room was no great hardship, because I could curl up on my bed and read the Famous Five. My love of reading stayed with me, throughout primary and secondary education. I even became a school librarian. The books I read have been wonderful friends. They've made me laugh, cry and even snort in surprise. I've almost thrown books across rooms because of a character's death and I've dreamed endless ways to bring them back.

As an indie author myself, I know the pain of waiting on reviews or on agents. I've opened rejection letter after rejection letter until I decided to do it for myself. I know how much it costs and hurts when my books sits unsold.

So this is where Literary Musings was born. I love to read and some of the best books I've read recently, I didn't know about until someone asked me to review for them. I promote other authors and review when I can. I dislike giving one star reviews, but I do promise to be honest with the authors who approach me.

In other parts of my life, I sew, love anime and manga, roleplay and board game with friends and I nurse a love of puzzles.

March Madness- Jackson Locke from The Taking Series by Melissa West

Hello bookish people, welcome to March Madness, where we get mad about more than the Spring weather, we get excited for book boyfriends. We all have them. We all love them. We all get a little crazy about them. And today I hope to either add another to your growing list, or reaffirm your love. I am Danielle Young at Consuming Worlds and I admit, I have a lot of book boyfriends. And today I am going to tell you why you should vote for one of them.

As soon as I was introduced to Jackson Locke from Gravity by Melissa West, I fell in love. I didn't just fall in love with his looks--but he is a looker, trust me, but I fell in love with his drive and desire to help people. Now if you don't know much about Jackson, then allow me to show you the reasons he should have your vote today.

Hello, YUM!
Jackson Locke is from The Taking Series by Melissa West and in the words of Ari (from Gravity book 1) "It's as though chaos and perfection slammed into each other and he's the result." Couldn't have said it better myself.

He's solid 6'2" of yummy alien goodness. A secret spy for his home planet, Jackson is everything a warrior should be. But with a heart. Jackson is a lethal weapon, both his mind and body are honed and sharpened to deliver maximum results. He is the best at what he does. Which, is everything. He is a top fighter, top marksman, and a genius.

Just look at him. He oozes confidence and swagger.

You're wondering what's under that shirt aren't you?

Your wish is my command....

It's okay to drool
But he isn't just HAWT... (you know you were thinking it) he has a soft side too. Underneath his warrior shell lies the heart of a Lion. He feels deep, cares for more than himself, and loves with ferocity.

“ I love her with such an intense need that for the first time in my life, I feel whole, I feel right, I feel as though every flaw I have is now erased, filled by her. She is my perfect opposite, and I will love and protect her.
Always.” –Jackson Locke, Hover

“You shouldn’t love me, but assuming you ignore me, like always, know this: I am absolutely, mind-bendingly in love with you. In every way. Every ounce of my body. My entire being…it belongs to you.”

"I want you. In every way. In any way I can get you. And if that means being your friend, then that's what I'll be. But don't expect me to open up about the worst parts of my life when I am next to nothing to you now."

"His fingertips hesitate at my lips, and his gaze drops.  I draw a breath, and then his lips find mine.  It’s an explosion of emotions-first warmth, then contentment, then fear, so much fear."

And he will fight to save everyone. Jackson doesn't see race or color. He see's people. And he will do anything to prevent their death's.

"Why does death have to be the answer? It isn't how I'm made, Ari. Orders or not, I can't just sit back and let this happen. I'd never be able to live with myself if I did nothing."

Even if it means he has to fight his own kind. Jackson is everything a book boyfriend should be... loyal, kind, fierce, funny, smart, confident, hot, and lethal. He can sweep you off your feet with romance and protect you from every adversary. He loves confidence in a girl and doesn't mind when she can kick his butt. Now that is a real man.

And in case you still aren't sure... I'm going to leave you with a few more "reasons" as I sneak away.

One more reason...

Go on cast your vote for Jackson... you know you want too!

Turtle Bay by Tiffany King {Review}

Recently I was given the opportunity to read the newest YA book from one of my favorite authors and all I can say is that I'm happy Tiffany King has decided to venture back into the world of YA. I missed her. Check out my review below of Turtle Bay.

Synopsis~
If you're a teenager in a small, rural area, how do you exist when your eccentric, free-spirited parents are the town freaks everyone laughs at?

My Review~

Rain is the town troublemaker. Causing havoc and trouble everywhere she goes. But she doesn't cause trouble to actually be trouble. Her pranks are a way to keep the heat off her overly eccentric parents. Naturally all those pranks were bound to get her in hot water. When she is expelled and her parents inherit a house in Turtle Bay, Florida, Rain decides to use it as an opportunity to turn a new leaf.

But turning a new leaf is harder than she thought and Rain quickly finds herself in the crosshairs of the law and on the hate list of one hot lifeguard. Now she will spend the rest of the summer making amends while trying to build new relationships.

I am a huge fan of all of Tiffany King's books, but her YA books are where my heart lies. So I was more than excited when she announced her return to the genre with her latest release of Turtle Bay.

In typical Tiffany King fashion I quickly found myself falling in love with the characters. She has some great skill in crafting characters you can relate to as well as route for. In Turtle Bay we have the funny main character Rainbow, or Rain as she prefers to be called, who is funny, strong, sweet, and misunderstood. Rain truly loves her parents and will do anything to prevent them from being laughed at. Of course the way she chooses to do it probably isn't the best way, but it definitely makes for a funny story. I really enjoyed hearing about the pranks Rain pulled in her old town. It actually made me think a lot about my High School days. You know a story is great when it connects with something in your life.

Then you have the adorable and straight laced lifeguard Josh, who is sweet, fiesty, law abiding, and cares for everyone. Especially the beach. But he is much more than a hot lifeguard. Underneath his tough exterior he hides scars and pain and a heart worth fighting for. When these two meet you just know there are going to be fireworks. Just not in the way you expect.

Of course Tiffany King doesn't let us down and gives us really great side characters that really help take the story to another level. No matter the role of the characters, each one is as developed as our main character. Naturally, there are some you will love and some you will want to bury in the sand.

Then there is the story. Cute, adorable, sweet, and gut wrenching, just like I hoped it would be. Turtle Bay really has it all. Humor, romance, suspense, amazing characters, and a story that brings in the feelings of memories long forgotten.

Author Tiffany King knows how to craft a story. She plays with emotions, gives us hope, and counters it with pain and life. Turtle Bay is an artful story that will make you laugh, make you wish of sunny days on the beach, and bite your nails as these characters are tested in ways that no one can see coming. It is these tests that show us the truth of these characters and leaves you breathless.

Here is just one of my favorite moments from Turtle Bay... "Yes, Buttercup. I am. I'm just able to do it without pooping leprechaun gold or crying rainbow tears," I said dryly. (Kindle, loc. 84)
There are a ton of moments just like this throughout this book. I'm telling you, hilarious!

My Review~

I had mixed feelings about this book. When it first started I was really into it and totally digging the story. With Fallen Angels what's not to love? But then there was insta-love. Now hold on a second before you condemn me for this. I don't mind insta-love for the most part. But I don't like it when it happens within the first 15% of a book. And when it happens the very same day they meet. It's not like I didn't like the characters together because I do, I just wish they had to fight for it. I wanted to fight for them, to route for them. Instead I found myself not caring about them as a couple.

As far as the characters go, I was a little disappointed with all of them. I feel like she barely scratched the surface and I wished... no I wanted so much more. I so wanted to like these characters. To really connect with them, but I just couldn't do it. However, I was fascinated by Khemrhy and I really wish that Tara S. Wood had given me a little more of her.

There was a lot of mystery about this Lucius but instead of adding mystery to the story it really just left me wanting. There were so many times where I got frustrated because the story jumped without clear indication or I was left without the whole picture. I love mystery in a book, but sadly I didn't enjoy this mystery.

Now there is no denying the fact that this book is HOT, but this may have been too hot for me.

Overall the story read pretty well. It was fast paced and full of action. Tara S. Wood did a great job writing the action scenes. I really enjoyed them, they flowed and didn't remove you from the story. Instead they added to it. These Angels are warriors so it was awesome to get to really see that side of them. Tara S. Wood did a great job using humor to connect the characters and I quickly found myself loving the banter between the Angels. In fact the humor was one the things I enjoyed the most.

To sum it up... I think you should give this book a shot. Despite the things I didn't like it kept me interested and reading. This is definitely one book that you need to make the decision for yourself on. If you like smoking hawt Angels, then this is the book for you.

Jude knows pain. He feels it with every inhale and exhale of breath. It is a constant on his mind and on his skin; a reminder of the depth of his disobedience. And his cruelty. And now for a treat here's a little teaser from the book.

Practice Safe Sex
Sleep With a Vampire
Fane smiled when he saw my expression. “Don’t forget, I know all about you and your stash of Trojans.”
I’d nearly forgotten about my pit stop at the Jewel Lake Quickie Mart on my way to Scott Steven’s house. Fane had the unfortunate timing of buying smokes at the same time I was buying protection.
“Your face turned so red when you saw me in line behind you,” Fane said. “Sorta like it’s doing right now.”
He reached his hand forward to touch my cheek. I uncrossed my arms and batted it away.
“That’s because I’d just come in from the cold,” I said.
Fane shook his head. “You were embarrassed.”
“You were an ass.”
“Don’t forget, I offered to drive you home. Should have taken me up on it.”
I sucked in a breath.
Fane moved his chin back and forth as though saying, you know I’m right.
In the end, it would have been better to return home. I could have avoided the worst sex ever. I didn’t have anything to compare it to, but I was convinced it couldn’t get worse than Scott Stevens. Doing him ranked somewhere up there with stabbing a vampire to death.
Schools ought to hire me to preach abstinence.

“Hey guys, don’t do it. It sucks—unless you meet a nice vampire because he probably knows what he’s doing and I bet he does it really well. Plus you won’t get pregnant or any STD’s. Remember, don’t take him to bed, unless he’s undead.”

I seriously love this scene! Ok, so I loved the entire book, but this was one of my favorites.

And for another treat, if you purchase Hunting Season this week you get a bonus story about Dante!!! Now every girl wants that.
