~Excerpt~

Cut Scene from ANOMALY by Tonya Kuper
-told from Reid’s POV-
I walked a few feet to the studio, Josie followed and stood in the doorway. She looked totally drained.  “Really?”

“Yup.” I sat and patted the floor next to me, which earned me an eye roll.
She plopped down, not making eye contact. “Where’s Hannah?” I whispered.

Still not looking at me, she carefully placed her water and towel in their exact places, and checked her phone. “She’s not gonna make it tonight.”

“Mmmm. Lucky you then.” I pointed to the sign on the door. “It’s partner night.”

Josie’s face swung to mine, her eyebrows arched high. I gave her a “suck it” smile.
The class started with slow stretching, working our way up to sun salutations. It was hard for me to concentrate. I watched Josie lower herself to the floor with control and strength, hover just above the mat then thrust her hips forward into upward dog, pushing her back into a beautiful arch.

Holy hell.

The instructor turned the music down with the remote control and said, “Find your partner for the night, the one who will help you identify if we are engaging your core.” She switched the music to a contemporary song with a heavy beat, far from our usual flute and steel drums yoga tunes.

Josie, still avoiding my gaze, got into Warrior I position, her front knee bent and arms reaching for the ceiling. The yoga teacher instructed us to first check the position as a whole before moving onto the abs. Partners, all women, stood behind the other placing their hands on the others hip bones, making sure they pointed forward. Moving behind Josie, I straddled her extended leg, watching her back expand and contract as she breathed. Easing closer, I slid my hands around to the front of her hips. Josie dragged in a rugged breath as I leaned into her. I closed my eyes for a moment, trying to stop the dizziness initiated by her gardenia perfume and surge of energy rushing through my veins. The very essence and proximity of Josie gave me a natural high. Opening my eyes, I was surprised to find Josie’s irises locked on mine, almost daring me.

The instructor weaved through the yogi pairs. “Let’s check to make sure those ribs aren’t popping out. We want the abdominals fully engaged, not letting the torso arch or break.” She illustrated on a student and expected us to the do same to our partners.

Josie focused on the front of the room as my right hand skimmed over her tank, just under her chest. My fingers drifted over her ribs to her stomach, my lips close to her ear. “You’re connected,” I whispered.

Her intense gaze hung on mine in the mirror as my hand hesitated over her navel, my chest pushed against her back. For a moment, my heart and breath stopped. Time seemed to slow and the world around slipped away. It was in her eyes – questions and confusion, but also a longing, a burning, a desperation. She felt the electricity between us, the intangible, undefinable something that drew us to each other. Every nerve ending in my body burned.

“Switch,” the instructor yelled.

Josie’s body flinched under me and her cheeks darkened, a sliver of smile playing on her lips. She cleared her throat and turned her head toward my face so my nose, lips, and chin brushed her cheek. Then she stepped out of her stance, away from me.

Facing me, she smiled. “You’re turn, pretty boy.”

I settled into the position. Josie’s warm hands swept over my shoulders and pulled down. I was not prepared for her hands to be anywhere besides my stomach.

“Relax,” she whispered behind me. “Pull down your latissimi dorsi muscles, it’ll create more space between your shoulders and ears.” Two fingers skated down my lats on each side, making my spine straighten more and the air in my lungs rush out in surprise.

Her unabashed hands wrapped around my hips, her fingers searching for the edge of the hip bones. Once she literally held my hips in her hands, she twisted them to the front of the room in one quick, rough motion. My blood was sure to boil and cook me from the inside out.

Her hot hand shot over my ribs, her fingers spread wide then crept down my shirt to my lower abs. She popped up to her tip toes and whispered, “Your ribs aren’t popping. It feels engaged. Do you feel the connection?”

Keeping my body directed to the mirror in front of us, I watched her. “You have no. I. Dea.” I turned my head over my shoulder and she was right there, our noses almost touching. I could feel her chest expanding faster against my back as her lips parted ever so slightly. Her always serious, calculating face waivered for a second, like when it was her turn. I wasn’t sure what I’d caught a glimpse of, but I liked it.

The rest of class continued, Josie avoiding more contact at all costs. I now had a new goal in addition to everything else: Make whatever flashed across Josie’s face appear more often.

My Review~

*sigh* It's the end. Oh. My. Gosh. It's the end! It's the end. It. Is. The. End. *sigh*

It doesn't matter how many times I say it or read it, the sound of it still hurts. I can't believe it is actually the end. I mean I know I read it and I know that the end actually happened, but my mind is having a really hard time grasping the fact that I have to say goodbye to Mycah, Rydan, and Nari. The best elves that I have met since Legolas in Lord of the Rings.

And I'm not just saying that either. Sweet Redemption was an end to end all ends. (Sounded better in my head). It was everything. Really. The story of Sweet Redemption had my heart in a vice from the second I opened my kindle and kept tight reigns on it throughout the entire story. It was a story of truth, endurance, and everlasting love.

Every character traveled a path of resistance, one that tested them in every capacity. As a reader this hurt to read. Bailey Ardisone pushed these characters so hard that I thought my heart would break. Okay, let me restate that... she pushed them so hard my heart broke. A. LOT! I swear by the end of the book my heart was held together with scotch tape and super glue. I can only imagine what the hearts of the characters looked like by the end.

The story of Sweet Redemption is one that rivaled the story of Lord of the Rings. It kept me on the edge of my seat, tears in my eyes, and my heart in my throat. Everything about it broke me. But everything about it put me back together. The series title is Sweet and trust me when I say that this story is so sweet it's beautiful. Bailey Ardisone has an amazing ability to capture the mind and imagination. To take her readers to far away magical places. Sweet Redemption was a beautifully, enchanting story that gives elves another way to shine. Everything about it was mesmerizing, magical, and Sweet. I'm not sure the words I have written here can even begin to convey my feelings for this book, or this series. Just know that my heart soared and feelings flowed.

"Nariella. Even if being with you meant I was fated to destruction for it, you would be worth it. You're worth fighting for, you're worth dying for, and I won't stop loving you just because someone tells me to." ~(kindle, loc. 2936).

There are so many magical moments in this story, it is hard to choose just one, but this is just one moment that brings me to my knees.

Enjoy this excerpt:

His fingers were on the sides of my head, thumbs resting at the corners of my lips where his were placed ever-so precariously as he continued, “You, Nariella, are my light. You’re the last note to my song. It will always be you. You are who I’m meant to be with. If we didn’t endure hardships to be together then we couldn’t be meant for each other. How else can we know it’s meant to be unless after walking through hell and back our love remains pure and strong? I care not of destiny or fate. I do not believe such a thing, because no matter what force may try and stop me, what may do its best to interfere, I will return to you. I will always come back to you, Nariella. Always.”

“No, you—you can’t say things like that. You can’t–” His lips were fully on mine then, cutting my opposition off mid-sentence. His fingers were sliding along my cheeks until they were tangled up in my hair. They slid downward through long strands before reclaiming their spot at the sides of my face. They stretched over the crown of my head, his thumbs left hugging tenderly to the space in front of my ears. My lips betrayed Ender’s wishes—my own wishes—clinging to Mycah’s as if thriving on his generous life-support.

Darn them.

I melted into him wholly and completely. I could think of nothing but his heart beating beneath my fingertips that were clasped around his wrists. The sweetness of his taste that enveloped my tongue; the still of his breath that he held in anticipation of my reaction to him.

And so I couldn’t help myself. I let go of my self-restraint and kissed him back with a heavy heart. A heart that was held down by the weight of the world, because this would be the last time that I ever kissed Mycah Nightly.

Blurb~

Whoever said money couldn't buy happiness has never starved a day in their lives.

My name is Aria Valencia, a third year classical music student at the university, and I was down to my last dollar. Some nights, I seriously considered working at the rippers just to make ends meet, but the thought of my dad's spirit--God rest his soul--scowling at me while I danced up on some drooling degenerate was enough to turn me off the idea completely.

And then one night, chance came knocking on my door under the guise of the Midnight Society, a secret cabal comprised of the most wealthy and influential souls this side of the Universe. Their leader was a man named Shadow, who was equally enigmatic as he was gorgeous and, for some mystifying reason, had his dark brooding eyes focused on me.

Seduced by the promises of fame and fortune in exchange for a seemingly innocent request, I soon found myself drawn into a provocative world filled with both vast riches and unending lies and it didn't take long for me to realize what being a part of the Midnight Society actually entailed: shiny things, sensual romance, and dead bodies.

Falling in love with Shadow came with a terrible price, one that I wasn't willing to pay. There's a dark side to every love story, and this one was mine.

My Review~

It's here. It's finally here. I finally got the answer to my prayers and was given more of the superlicious Jaxen Gramm. Okay, I wanted more of the amazing story too, but we all know that the reason we are reading this series is for more Jaxen Gramm, the great story that lies within the pages is just a great added bonus.

Before I continue to obsess over Jaxen let me obsess over the story. Evernight starts right where Everlasting left off with lots of what the hell's and this can't be good. And it pretty much continued on like that for most of the book. I was constantly yelling and cursing. This book definitely frazzled my nerves. I was totally bipolar reading this book. One minute I was happy and ah-ing and the next I was yelling or saying what the hell. I can't tell you how many times I asked the question, "Can't they just catch a freaking break?" And then this amazing thing happened where... um, wait, I can't tell you that. But trust me when I say that this moment was HUGE and made me squeal like a little girl. I may have danced a little too. Anyway, the story of Faye is definitely explosive.

But it's not only the story that makes this an excellent read, the characters are what really sell's it. Candace Knoebel manages to create characters that make you feel like you have known them forever. Every character plays a key role in developing the story. No character is useless. I can honestly say I love every character in this series. The main character Faye is one of my favorite female characters. Strong, funny, a warrior, determined, loyal, and can hold her own against any force, Faye is definitely a strong female lead. Then there is Weldon, the dark, witty, sarcastic half demon that adds the perfect balance to Jaxen's dark and brooding demeanor. Did someone say Jaxen??? Yes let's talk about Jaxen. In Evernight we really get to see more of Jaxen and what makes him tick and we get to see a side of him that I really didn't think I would ever see. And did I mention how amazing he is in a fight? No, my bad, he is. Really Jaxen is the best and is the perfect pairing for Faye. Her equal in every aspect. These two make the perfect team.

Evernight is a story full of action, incredible characters, twists and turns, magic, and comedy. There wasn't a second where I wanted to put this book down. I got everything I wanted in this book with Jaxen, Jaxen, Jaxen!

"He's a perfect storm... a force that can't be contained - that should never be contained."

The best description of Jaxen ever!
