Book Blurb~
Seventeen-year-old Zayn has special powers she cannot control—powers that others fear and covet. Powers that cause the Templar Knights to burn Zayn’s mother at the stake for witchcraft. When a mysterious stranger tempts Zayn to become the first female member of the heretical Assassins, the chance to seek her revenge lures her in. She trains to harness her supernatural strength and agility, and then enters the King of Jerusalem's court in disguise with the assignment to assassinate Guy de Molay, her mother’s condemner. But once there, she discovers Earic Goodwin, the childhood friend who still holds her heart, among the knights—and his ocean-blue eyes don’t miss a thing. Will vengeance be worth the life of the one love she has left?

My Review

I am not really too sure what or how I feel about this book. On one hand it was pretty freaking cool. I haven't read too many books about a female assassin who is just as fearless and kick-arse as her male counterparts. However, the kick-arse part just wasn't enough to save this book for me. Which is so sad, because I had really high hopes for this one. After reading the blurb I was dying to read this book, but unfortunately the story and the characters just didn't really grab me.

The story was all rather confusing. Zayn has powers in which people want to use and abuse. Of course these people are power hungry. And when her mother is slain for her powers Zayn runs and ends up training as an assassin, where she works tirelessly so that she can seek revenge on the man that forever changed her world. I get that part, I understand it, but there is a lot of flashbacks throughout the telling of the story that I feel didn't really help fill the story. They helped me learn of this character Earic, but unfortunately you don't really meet him until much later in the book. And by the time he graced the pages I was already sort of over the whole thing.

Flashbacks aside, in the beginning of the book we really don't get to see much of Zayn's powers leaving me wondering exactly what her powers were. The things she could do seemed sort of mundane and simple. It wasn't really until the end where we got to see Zayn really use her power. And once we did it was freaking awesome!

I would say I loved the last third of Knight Assassin and if the entire book had been as action packed and exciting as the last third then this would have been one hell of a book. It just took too long to get there. Despite my love of Earic and my desire to see a kick-arse female I just got bored. I didn't really have a connection to the characters or the story that I love to get when I read a book.

The truth is I didn't get lost in this story. I did find some great parts, really great parts, but they were not enough to save this book for me.

{Blog Tour} Flawed Perfection by Cassandra Giovanni {Review & Teaser}

*Received a free copy in exchange for an honest review

Book Blurb~
Bobby Beckerson was the American All-Star hockey player--he was the spitting image of perfection to his family. Goofy, sweet and undeniably gorgeous, he had everything but the one girl he wanted: River Ahlers.

River Ahlers is successful in everything but love. She's been in love with Adam Beckerson since they were kids. Worst of all she's stuck right in the middle of the brother's dueling over everything and anything, and she doesn't even know she's the ultimate prize.

Adam Beckerson was a boy with a guitar, a smile that sunk girl's hearts and a stone wall around his own. He was anything but perfect, and no matter how hard he tried he was nothing compared to Bobby. Sweet, damaged, with boyish good-looks, nobody thought Adam loved anyone but himself.

Bobby loved River, River loved Adam and Adam only loved himself--or so everyone thought. Then one night everything changes, and as it threatens to destroy everyone involved a tragedy strikes that will break them all...
GENRE: New Adult Contemporary Romance

My Review

River is the girl next door. The girl next door to two very hot guys who happen to be brothers and more different than the sun and moon. They are her best friends, but she wants to be more than friends with one of them, only he doesn't know it. She sits by and watches as he dates bimbo after bimbo, each time wishing that the bimbo was her. Yearning for it, wishing it, hoping for it to come true. It kills her inside. To help her get over it, her best friend Tara throws guy after guy River's way. But none of them are right. None of them are Adam.

Adam may not want her, but his hot hockey player brother certainly does. Bobby does everything he can to get River to be with him, to give him a chance. Any chance. But her heart has belonged to Adam since they were kids, now if only she could tell him.

I loved the characters of this book from the very first page. These characters all have great chemistry, it's a great dynamic to read, but the entire time you're thinking.... this is a train wreck waiting to happen. River loves Adam, Bobby loves River, Adam loves.... well who the hell knows who he loves. Only Adam knows that as he keeps his heart under lock and key.

Let me give you a low down on the characters... first there's River. The girl next door. She's pretty, has a great job, a great personality and is in love with someone who doesn't even notice. Then there's Adam... where do I start with Adam? See the guy on the cover? Yea that's him. He's sexy, sultry, dark, and mysterious. He plays the guitar, is super sweet, a player, a true artist and he has won the heart of his life long friend River. He is the black sheep of the family and loathes it. Last there's Bobby. The sexy as hell hockey player brother that is built like a God. He's funny, charming, sporty and is almost every girls dream. He is the golden child and can do no wrong in the eyes of his parents. He wants River, but she wants the other brother.

Reading Flawed Perfection makes you feel like the friend stuck in the middle. You are that friend on the outside looking in. You get to see it all, you are the one who get's to see the whole story. And sometimes it feel's like you are the only one who knows what in the hell is going on. It's like seeing the love between two friends and both are completely oblivious to the fact that they both love each other and belong together. You just want to shake them both and force them to see what you see. Yup, reading Flawed Perfection is just like that. You want to grab these characters and shake some sense into them and help them see what you see. For most of the book I was torn between banging my head against a wall and smacking the crap out of the blind characters. I loved it and hated it. I knew where I wanted the story to go. I was just worried it was never going to get there. Good thing the feeling past.

But after a bunch of back and forth and hair pulling moments, this story goes where you want it to go. It goes down the path that you want to force these characters into and it is beautiful. Of course happiness doesn't last forever and things happen to make the road a little rocky. And then tragedy strikes and leaves everything up in the air. You spend the whole story frustrated with the characters for being freaking blind as a bat, stupid, naive, or just plain freaking stubborn to have it smashed at the end.

Flawed Perfection is a flawed yet delightfully fun book. It will frustrate you, but I promise you will laugh and swoon a lot too!

*So how about a teaser from one of my favorite swoon worthy moments in this book?? Knew you couldn't resist! Meet Jaxen... *sigh* oh and Faye. She's there too :) (she's awesome)
~Teaser~

From Chapter 10
“Come here,” he says, his tone low, husky. My heart flaps harder, wilder. He’s looking straight into the mirror. I want to be that mirror looking back at him, drowning in his eyes and words of want. His back is a mountain of lean, cut muscles. His fists are pressed against the counter, held tight and firm. Thick veins stick out from under his skin, just waiting for my fingers to trail over.

I find myself just a step away from him, my heart hammering against my chest. I don’t know why. He’s helping me, nothing more, so why do I feel so lightheaded and flushed inside? Why does my skin crave for his touch, a touch that’s sure to come, even if full of innocence?

He moves just enough to fit me in between him and the counter. I swallow down my nerves and stand in front of him, resting a hand against the marbled countertop to help stabilize me. I try not to notice the tension in his body, the way his eyes close when my leg brushes against his, the way he licks his lips when our faces come just a breath’s length away from each other.

His eyes open, and he holds me with his gaze. He allows me to see past his titanium wall. In front of him, gazing into his endless, green eyes, I know I could fall at any moment, physically and emotionally, and this scares the hell out of me. I barely know him, yet, I feel like I’ve known him forever.

He reaches behind me and turns the hot water on. He’s so close, so unbelievably close, my fingers almost slip out from under me. There’s no steadying my heart, no taming my breathing as he waits for the water to heat before wetting the towel. He lifts his other hand, and it hovers next to my waist like he’s waiting for something; a sign, an approval. I close my eyes, breathe in, and then his hand drifts down my waist where it comes to rest on top of my hip.

My breathing stops, along with my heart. My muscles clench with want. I curse the material between my skin and his hand. I want to give in to whatever delirium has taken over my rational thinking.

He gently pushes me back against the counter. The back of my legs bump against it, stopping me as he closes the distance between us. The way his body ever so slightly presses against mine ignites a flame inside of me, burning and aching for more of his touch. His hand lifts, slightly shaking, and then brushes the hair from my face until it comes to rest at the base of my neck. He’s a pyromancer, controlling and building the fire within me. The firmness of his grip sends heat to places I’ve never felt heat before.

His eyes lock on mine. His other hand lifts, bringing the towel just to the edge of my lip where the cut is. I wince when he presses it against my mouth and squeeze my eyes shut. Shut the pain off, I tell myself. I had during the fight without even trying. I open my eyes again and focus on the color of his, the deep evergreen color that displays wisdom. He’s looking down at my mouth, still wiping away blood. His eyes brush mine again, and then move to the cut on the side of my eyebrow.

My heart feels like it could drift away at any moment with all the fluttering. There’s such a gentleness about him, a kindness that has yet to be shown, and yet, here he is, showing it to me, to someone who had brought this upon herself.

My Review

So usually when I do reviews I like to give you a little recap of the book, but this time I've decided to give you the Top Ten reasons I loved this book and you will too!

1. Jaxen *drool* *Swoon* *sigh* Yea he deserves all that and way way more!

2. Faye. The main character in which this story is about. At first she is all sweet, innocent and down on herself, but by the time this book is over she is freaking kick butt and can stand with the best of them.

3. Magic... magic... and more freaking awesome magic!

4. Action. This book is chock full of great action... fight scenes with weapons + fight scenes with magic= the best action around! (You know because I get everything I love in one, action and magic. It really is the perfect combination. Trust me, K.)

5. The characters. Seriously, all the characters in Everlasting are amazing and will completely blow you away. And I mean every character. You can tell that Candace Knoebel takes the time to thoroughly develop each and every one of her characters, taking great care in building them into people that we can all love.... or hate. Or love to hate!

6. The story. I love this story. No it is not a completely original idea, it has elements from multiple great books. But it's how Candace Knoebel takes those elements and twists them and warps them that makes this story seem original. She is what breathes life into it and it works. It's beautiful. I loved this story so much I didn't want to put it down, seriously, I had to pry the kindle out of my hands at 1:30 in the morning because I had to be awake in less than 4 hours.

7. Pacing. This sort of goes along with #6, the pacing of this story is perfect. From the minute you start this book things just flow. The story is constantly moving forward and has a perfect mix of action and story. This is just one of the reasons I couldn't put this book down.

8. Jaxen... yes he deserves to be on this list twice! Hell you are lucky this entire list isn't just Jaxen. Read this book and you will understand my fixation.

9. Did I mention that Jaxen has an equally awesome brother named Gavin?? I didn't. Well shame on me. Yes there are two freaking amazing guys in this book. Ok so there are more than two, but these are the two that really count.

And.....

10. Balance. (you thought I was going to say Jaxen again didn't you? Yea I was.) Everlasting has perfect balance. With all the action going on in this story Candace Knoebel does an amazing job of keeping the story balanced. There is never too much of one thing. This book is the perfect harmony of action, magic, humor, mystery, and of course love!

Bottom line.... you need to read this book, if not for the amazing characters, deep story, incredible heart pounding pacing and perfect balance... then you have to read it for Jaxen! Yup I said it.

Now…

Can Brynn open up her heart to truly find her life’s own beauty, when living for the after means letting go of the before?

~Interview~

Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today and allowing me to pester you with totally random questions. I am super excited to have you here. Thanks! I’m happy to be here!

Ready for some random questions? Ready or not….here goes.

1) If you could be any fictional creature what would you be and why?

Hmm… I’m thinking a witch. Magic would be fun.

2) Help me settle the age old debate, Cupcakes or Cake? Why?

Cupcakes of course! It feels like there are more options.

**You are a woman after my own heart! I sort of have a cupcake obsession if you couldn't tell :)

3) Which socks are better blue or purple? Please explain your reasoning.

Purple because it’s my favorite color.

4) Paperback or ebooks? Why?

Both. LOL. I admit I buy mostly ebooks but I buy paperbacks from my favorite authors or series.

5) You are flying through the air and see a forest glimmering in the distance. There are shouts of help coming from below. A) How are you flying? B) Do you stop to see who is crying for help? C) If you stopped to help, describe the scene.

I’m flying because I’m a magical witch J Yep, I definitely help because I can and that’s just the kind of person I am. They were stranded there when their plane crashed. It’s been months and it’s a magical forest and we have to fight to get out.

Black Amaranth by Sasha Hibbs {Review}

*Received a free copy in exchange for an honest review

Book Blurb~
Eighteen-year-old Ally Watson arrives home from high school graduation, more than a little annoyed that her Uncle Argyle—Ally’s legal guardian and only surviving relative—didn’t even bother showing up. But instead of berating him for his forgetfulness, Ally finds him in a life-or-death battle with a monster. Argyle manages to kill the creature, and gives Ally a parcel containing a destiny she never knew existed.

Ally, along with her best friends Michael, Jessica, and David, hurry to Georgia to uncover the truth of Uncle Argyle’s secrets, and the meaning of the mysterious marks that Ally bears. Are the marks related to the blacksmith mythology of her ancestors? Who are these heavenly warriors who show up in the oddest of places? And will an ancient gypsy curse destroy the very things Ally fights to save?

Black Amaranth: a simple flower, a symbol with an ancient legacy, a conduit for prophecy…while faith and hope are essential to the journey, Ally soon discovers that love is the most powerful force of all.

My Review

Everything about Ally's life is thrown upside down the day she graduates high school. Oh sure things are supposed to be different, but not this different. There aren't supposed to be monsters and demons, but that is exactly what she finds. And as the only person she has known as a father is ripped away from her by darkness, she learns that her life is meant for something very different.

On the night that Ally graduated high school she wanted to see the face of her Uncle Argyle, the only father she had ever known, but he was nowhere in sight. When she goes home with her friends she finds him locked in battle with a necrosapien. Only she doesn't know what that is. During the battle Uncle Argyle gives her very cryptic instructions that is supposed to lead her to safety and answers.

Ally does exactly as she is instructed and finds herself swallowed by a world that she absolutely doesn't understand. There are seraphs, vampires, and demons. And the more Ally uncovers about this strange new world, the more questions she has. It seems with every answer comes new questions and new oppositions.

Questions about who she really is, who her family really was, the life she is meant to live and all the choices that she is mean to make. Her life is in complete unbalance as she tries to piece the puzzle together in time to save herself, friends and her uncle. There is so much to learn in so little time and so much rests on her shoulders.

With all the questions that surface for Ally, the questions add another layer to the story, another piece to what can sometimes be an overwhelming puzzle, but keep reading and you will be rewarded.

The main characters of the story were truly enjoyable and gave a fun depth to the story. They helped make it come alive and kept the story grounded as layer upon layer was thrust upon me. The story of Black Amaranth has a lot of characters, which at times is good, but can also be a little confusing and in a story rich in facts and history sometimes it is a little hard to keep it all straight. With the main characters being developed, deep and rich, the side characters often fell a little flat and didn't really add much to the story for me other than my frustration at not getting my answers.

Overall, I enjoyed the story of Ally and her displaced friends. I enjoyed the magic, the history and the way everything intertwined together to weave a story that was incredibly full of mystery. Black Amaranth is a story that is very layered and will definitely take you on a magical adventure. Everything comes together nicely at the end giving you just enough of an ending to drive you mad with wanting to know what happens next. One thing is for sure, this is definitely not the same old story, so the ending was definitely hard to predict. Black Amaranth is a story that you simply have to experience for yourself.

Fire & Flood 2 Announcement

Well folks some great news has come from the camp of Victoria Scott.... and it's about Fire & Flood 2... EEP!

A NOTE FROM VICTORIA SCOTT

I can’t believe how amazing these past couple of weeks has been. Fire & Flood is officially out in the world, and it’s an incredible feeling. To see it on shelves and hear readers’ reactions to some of my beloved scenes has provided me heaps of writing fuel. And this is good news since I’ve been elbow deep in revisions for book two.

Ah, the second book. What can I tell you without spoiling the ride? Well, I can say this—I believe in packing each book with more action than the one preceding it. I believe in continually raising stakes, testing characters, and strengthening relationships. There are many scenes in book two that break my heart, and others that make me laugh. There will be frostbite and avalanches, oceanic storms and twisted new rules. There will be deaths of beloved characters, and new Pandoras to adore. And there will be fierce battles between Contenders and Pandoras alike over the one thing everyone wants—the Cure. For it all comes down to this:

Who will be the one to cross the finish line first?

The answer may surprise you.

Now, let’s get on with what you’re here for—the first nugget of information about book two! The official title and release season are…

Excerpt

I nodded my head and watched as Adam’s hand lingered on the neck of the Ibanez™ before he picked it back up and slipped the strap over his shoulder.
I sat on the edge of the bed as he began to play without an amplifier.
The noise was tinny without the electric part hooked up but that didn’t matter. Adam’s fingers moved effortlessly from fret to fret as he strummed the guitar. His head nodded ever so slightly to the beat and his bare foot tapped the floor as he closed his eyes and a smile formed on his lips.
I stood and placed my hands around his neck, yet he continued to play, nod his head and tap his foot with eyes closed. The only change was on his lips as they crept into the seductive grin.
I leaned into him, letting my hands comb through the hair on the back of his head as my breath washed over his lips.
Still nothing. The guitar continued to hum with his talent.
I let my lips hover over his, then let them wander over the soft skin of his neck and up the stubble of his chin. The beat remained smooth, undisturbed as the strings squealed and he deepened the riff.
I paused as my lips reached his again, lingering at the corner of his mouth where the cold metal of his lip ring teased me just as much as his fingers on the guitar.
I let my mouth run over the metal until it caught in my teeth and I sucked it in.
Finally, his body reacted tensing as he groaned—but his playing didn’t cease, didn’t change. He still resisted, hand strumming a tease over the strings next to the skin of my belly.
His mouth responded to mine as I let the ring and his lip slowly slip away from me. That was it— the guitar spun to his back and he yanked my hips to his own.
“I need you to play me like that guitar,” I gasped as his hand tilted my head and his tongue ran over my trembling neck.
His other hand drifted down my torso.
“Good, because I wasn’t done with my song,” he growled into my ear.
